MINORS TRAVELLING
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS FOR CHILDREN
Minors can travel with:
- An individual passport
- An ID card if travelling within the EU
- Up to 15 years of age, with a birth and citizenship certificate (art. 7/14 25/11/2009) endorsed by the Police.
For trips abroad, minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by one of their parents.
The child's registration on the parent's passport is no longer valid since 27.06.2012. Parent's passports with minor children registration remain valid for the holder only until the natural expiry of the document. For further information, visit the Italian State Police website: https://www.poliziadistato.it/articolo/191.
UNACCOMPANIED MINORS
Procedures for the travel of unaccompanied minors are established by the airline the child is travelling with. You can visit airline website. For journeys abroad, 'accompanying authorisation' issued by the Police authority is required.
Border Police offices at airports are not authorized to issue the accompanying declaration. You will, therefore, have to request it at the Questura or at your local Police station well in advance.
Accompanying authorization is not required for travel on national territory, but some airlines require specific documentation.
